Is it weird I’m not able to drive yet?

(self.highschool)

I’m a sophomore about to get my learners permit since I’ve put it off for so long, meaning I won’t be able to drive freely until the end of my junior year. All my other friends already have cars.

No. Not everyone is ready to pilot a two-ton piece of potentially lethal machinery yet.

Where I live you can’t get your permit until you turn 16, so pretty much no sophomores can drive and only a few juniors can. It’s not weird at all.

Nope, not weird at all. Just got my license as a hs senior, and still have friends yet to get a permit.

You're not weird.

Sophmores are 15-16 so that's the normal age. In my state it's a massive fee for a class to get a learner's at 15. So almost everyone waited to 16. So that's 17 for the driver's. I didn't have my learner's until 18 and stupidly decided I wouldn't need a driver's until I bought a car so I didn't get that until 22.

You're not weird. I promise.

No, I didn’t get my license after high school and got my first job even though I got my learners permit when I was a freshman, my folks thought I was not responsible enough to have a car.

nope, not at all, i wont get my licence till next month (im a jr) and almost everyone has a car but i dont worry, most dont drive well anyway, and some of my friends in my grade have permits and wont drive at all, so its not weird, plus not everyone can afford to get a car so early

I’m 24 and for some weird reason this showed up on my Reddit feed but either way. No it’s not weird most people around me waiting until we were 18 our senior year. You don’t have to be in a rush to get your license. I know people 25+ still without their license as well.

It's not weird. Don't go by anyone else's standards except your own. I didn't get my permit until junior year, didn't get a car until senior year and didn't get my license until the month after I graduated. I was taught that driving is a privilege, not a right; so make sure you take it at your own pace. It's a serious thing

I was the only one out of the group of my 3 closest friends who had my learner’s permit and license on time.

Please don't continue the rest of your life with this mindset. You are not behind, others are not ahead, you are right on track at your own pace.

Took me too long to figure that out

Hey I’m a junior I haven’t even began to get it. Mainly because I don’t need it at the moment. Everything I need to get to is within walking distance.

I’m a senior and I still have a friend or two who doesn’t drive. Getting your permit sophomore year puts you right about on schedule

Sophomore year is when you're SUPPOSED to learn to drive.

Many of my friends in high school didn't get their permits until junior or senior year. My wife didn't learn until she was 19.

Life is not race. You go at your pace.

Senior here, still haven’t even attempted to learn about driving yet. It’s okay if your friends can drive. Just mosey on along until junior year

I first drove when I was 26, and 20 years later, still haven’t had a single accident or even a ticket. Take your time. Driving should be the least of your worries right now

Nah. You’re good. I didn’t get my license and first car till I was 19 and at my first navy command.

Where I live, you can get your permit at 16 and license at 17. I did it a year later so I got my permit at 17 and license at 18 because I just didn’t feel ready yet and hated practicing. Then I got so comfortable with it and it was totally fine :) In the end, nobody’s going to remember how long it took you to get your license. Once you’re all like 20, it doesn’t matter!

You're fine. My 19yo son didn't get his until last summer, after he graduated HS.

Tbh if anything I find it weird that a lot of sophomores are already driving with licenses because I didn’t even turn 15 until the middle of my sophomore year lol

I got my permit when I was 15, didn't get my Level 2 (I can drive by myself) until I was almost 18. tbh the only reason I got my Level 2 when I did was because I wanted to get a job.

nope, i’m a junior and i’d say maybe 15-20% of the people in my class are able to drive (including me lol). ur totally fine

I don’t know how old a sophomore is but I’m 17 and I haven’t even started learning how to drive yet. I don’t want to drive yet, I don’t feel ready for that yet. Driving a car sounds scary. I think like 50% of 17/18 year olds I know don’t know how to drive yet.

I didn’t get my drivers license until I was 18. Because once your 18 you don’t have to go through the extra paperwork a minor does. You can just walk into the DMV and take the test. Older brother was 19. Not even strange
