Yea the original was better and and waaay more positive.
This shit isn’t want bothers me in my everyday life. It’s when alt right talking points get spewed out my loved ones mouths and them not realizing the origin.
“You realize the people who said that (or are making that point) want me hung for being me right?” (And usually it’s also blatant lies)

Also, there was an even more wholesome one where the last panel was:
“Nice transition, I’m glad it was successful.”
And she responds with:
“Thank you for all your support.”

i like to think that the guy was doing that thing some people do (in spanish it's called carrilla idk what it's called in english where you jokingly mock something but in a friend way, meaning you back off and apologize if it makes the person uncofortable, it is a very specific word for a very specific thing so idk) at first but then realized what was going on and just started being supportive

Cajoling is trying to get someone to do something by flattering them, and we got that from old French (cageoler, meaning “to chatter like a jaybird”). As for pushing buttons, that one definitely isn’t as friendly as banter.

It's really interesting how many conservatives literally change good endings of trans stories to bad endings so that they can tell themselves how we actually aren't happy.
They literally WANT us to die and ALSO LAUGH at this.
I'm not even really mad it's just so sad when you think about how miserable these people must be
4 points

It's becoming more and more clear they want trans teens to kill themselves. These are the people who wanted to keep the gay/trans panic murder defense.

God, I had a friend like that. I always put up with it because otherwise he was a decent person, but one pride month he put a Straight Pride flag as his profile pic. I'm a gay man, and I know that "Straight Pride" came straight from the alt-right. I called him out and told him where it came from, and in response he said I was acting like a Nazi.
I didn't respond to that, and we haven't spoken since.

Even here... Isn't the implication that he drove her to an early grave?
I mean we literally only have 3 facts in the comic, he harassed her, she's trans, she's dead. At the very least that interpretation is stronger than whatever anti trans message it seems they were after.
20 points
Not to mention they used a presumably dead name on the grave, as if in an attempt to imply "see look, transfems are actually just men in the end"
3 points
Yeah, the dissonance is that these people don't see driving transgender people to suicide as bad. This comic reads the same as the "41%" dogwhistle.
4 points

Thats the correct interpretation. They celebrate when trans people die
63 points

He's just teasing you because he likes you.
So the moral of the story is don't make fun of boys who like girly things or you'll make them want to become girls? Or don't make fun of trans-people because you'll make them want to commit suicide? I honestly can't tell which side this is on.
73 points

There is no moral in the edit, it's just supposed to be edgy. The original comic was just "don't make fun of people" that's it.

19 points
Yeah.
And honestly, if you harass and bully someone to the point that they want to or actually do kill themselves, your hands aren't exactly clean in that matter.
I don't care how that's seen from a legal standpoint. The fact of the matter is, if you mentally and emotionally torture someone to the point that they no longer want to be alive anymore, you are a piece of shit. And I hope you get what's coming to you, either in this life or the next.

I legitimately don't understand how people can wish death upon random people they don't even know, who's only "crime" is receiving medical treatment, and they don't even have the self awareness to realize how vile they're acting.
35 points
Oh they know.
There's a reason they push the "everyone I hate must be a pedo" angle. Once they've decided you need to be dead, truth no longer matters as long as they can put you in the ground and sleep well on top of the grave.
It's not even about personal feelings of guilt. They don't really deal with that. It's just that there's consequences if you kill someone before you've fully dehumanised them.

Is it just me or did the comic Satirize Bullying of Trans people making it like "oh wow that's horrible"
I assumed she killed herself because of the Bullying and that's what's being at the forefront here...so idk how this is Transphobic, seems like a call of awareness instead
Idk how did you all interpreted
160 points
It kinda is transphobic since the grave has what one can assume is the deadname of the victim. A common thing a lot of transphobic people bring up along with suicide rates
50 points
Isn't that the point though? It shows how brutally we treat trans people in life and death?

28 points

I think the “comic” is supposed to be anti-trans an “haha trans people kill themselves because of bullying” but, upon reflection, they’ve unintentionally made a pro-trans cartoon…. If you have a shred of humanity in you….
15 points
Yeah that's what I'm on rn, I think this comic is Satirical on the struggles and dark lives (and the ending thereof) of Trans people, so I can see this going both ways, mainly Pro Trans tbh
8 points

Apparently, the last panel was edited to be anti-trans. The real comic is pro and has a sweet ending. It’s lower down in the comments.

3 points

5 points
They both fit imo, which is why it's sort of an awkward comic to interpret. It's kinda disjointed
16 points
I can see that, however I know some people who transitioned who keep their name, showing that names themselves shouldn't be gendered so that's also possible
8 points
Yeah that's a fair viewpoint, but using a name like Jeff that's usually used as a generic mans name leads me to believe that they probably weren't thinking about that
3 points

3 points

I think the interpretation of the cartoon is highly dependent upon the context in which is was posted.
2 points
True like here it's posted as a negative, hence the sub, but idk I feel like it could go either way so why disassociate this from anything positive and go "sad ending for trans person=Anti Trans
Like in school I remember we watched an anti Bullying video called like "Someone's escape" it shows Bullying after Bullying and then shows him hanging from a tree at the end, its horrible its awful and the only reason I think this doesn't have the same treatment from people is that it's A comic about a very devicive topic, that ALOT of people have opinions on
5 points
I assumed she killed herself because of the Bullying and that's what's being at the forefront here
I think the comic was playing at the fact that trans individuals have much higher mortality rate compared to cis gendered individuals.
10 points
It's transphobic because it ends with the transwoman ending her life instead of standing up to the asshole. Just pointing out that trans people are literally being bullied to death solves nothing unless you encourage trans people to stand up for themselves as well.
4 points
I disagree, sometimes awareness is alot, and a sad ending for a Trans person doesn't make something Anti Trans, because sadly, even if you don't want to admit it, Trans people kill themselves, and it's a horrible thing, this Comic can be Satirizing the rediculous idea of Bullying Trans people it could also be making light of the struggles of people, but the fact remains its A. Up to interpretation and B. Either way it shows the struggles so I dont see how a message of "our Trans friends are dying" could be Anti Trans, sounds to me like q call to arms but thays just me
4 points
Ya it seems…confused. It looks like it’s pro-bullying, yet it’s so over the top that it feels like satire. Apparently it was ripped off from a pro-trans comic and they changed the last frame so it’s intentionally anti-trans, but I have to wonder how many people are actually going to read this and say “ya we should totally bully people into suicide” like what the fuck
3 points
It's an edit of a comic where the bully responds positively to her transition. Editing in this way was 100% not meant to be bringing awareness to bullying.

Transphobia is the "socially acceptable" bigotry right now. When I was a kid it was homophobia. Before that it was racism.
Of course homophobia and racism are still rampant. But now, if you display them openly, you're liable to catch some flak. Transphobia is the bigotry that the "reasonable, good Christian folk" are openly ok with at the moment. Just like they used to be openly ok with the others.
4 points
Yup. That's essentially it. Transphobia is very "in vouge" right now. So, many people just spew shit without any sort of hesitation, because they know they can without ramifications.
Some might put it all behind some thinly veiled bullshit, but you get a lot of them that are just happy to come right out and say it. Hell, for far too many, it's a point of pride with them. Which is absolutely disgusting.

There are two possibilities here.
One is that the person making this is going hard cynicism in the hopes that seeing something fucked up causes people to go "man that's fucked". Two is that it's made by an imbecile.

Unfortunately lots of transphobes think it’s hilarious when trans people kill themselves. Mocking us in life isn’t enough for them, they have to mock us in death too. Trans-supportive online spaces will get brigaded by transphobes spamming trans suicide rates bc they think it’s funny. This comic seems to have that vibe to it.

I matched recently with a transman on a dating site. I don't find masculine traits desirable but I was flattered a transman would find me attractive (cis/bi-guy). Most of them turn out (after transitioning) to be relatively attractive looking guys with just a hint of feminine features. Who cares if you don't have a penis? Most women don't even seem to find penises attractive... at least all the ones I send pics too..
