“I don't think Springsteen liked our Blinded by the Light, 'cos we sang 'wrapped up like a douche', and it wasn't written like that and I screwed it up completely. It sounded like 'douche' instead of 'deuce', 'cos of the technical process – a faulty azimuth due to tape-head angles, and it meant we couldn't remix it.
Warners in America said, 'You've got to change 'douche', 'cos the Southern Bible belt radio stations think it's about a vaginal douche, and they have problems with body parts down there.' We tried to change it to 'deuce' but then the rest of the track sounded horrible, so we had to leave it. We just said, 'If it's not a hit, it's not.'
But in the end, it was No.1 in America, and so many people came up to us after and said, 'You know why it made No. 1?... Everyone was talking about whether it was deuce or douche.' Apparently Springsteen thought we'd done it deliberately, which we hadn't, so if I ever saw him I'd avoid him and cringe away like a frightened little boy.”

I browse YouTube with ad personalization off. I can go from watching a lovely video by Tom Scott or the Slow Mo Guys, to suddenly being inundated with Rogen, Ben Shapiro, Praegar “U”, even the Andrew Tate clones.
Especially on their garbage-feature “shorts”. It will go from my left-leaning or agnostic subscriptions (comedy and science) to full on alt-right shit, in minutes.
If I was an impressionable teen, it would be a constant struggle not to let that hate flow in.

Bravo. TBH the frozen Fridays potato skins are better than the store’s, because I can add my own sour cream vs the anemic, warm portion that comes at most stores these days.

“Also, I think knives are a good idea. Big, fuck-off shiny ones. Ones that look like they could skin a crocodile. Knives are good, because they don't make any noise, and the less noise they make, the more likely we are to use them. Shit 'em right up. Makes it look like we're serious. Guns for show, knives for a pro.”

I get it, but if you just want the “boring dystopia” take: it will automate (or promise to automate) tens of thousands of white and blue collar jobs pretty rapidly. Those jobs won’t lead to any better opportunities (as was promised by previous “revolutions”). The “promise to automate” is key because it will probably be bad in the first 6 months, but the thing with these systems are that they can cover their ass pretty well, until they or the foundational model gets better.
We saw that, at my workplace, with ChatGPT 3.5: it did well-enough to automate some tasks, but then we found some bugs which were hard to root out. Then 4 access came out, and it’s solved those bugs. These are enterprise-level automations, not “tweet about my morning coffee in the style of Ali G.”

Echoing what a lot of other people are saying (inferior to the clip show that aired before, a bit of a drag in terms of pacing), but my issue was that it didn’t even take place in NYC!

I would say beyond the headlines, the average person knows next to nothing about the actual possibilities of AI, that will roll out in the next 1-2 years.
Edit: and I would add “the average legislator in most developed countries” to that list.

If you don’t want sugar or fake sugar, there are tons of cheap electrolyte powders, chews and dissolvable tablets that are just as palatable and easy to use – check REI, online, or any other sporting good store.

RAS syndrome is itself that, where "RAS" stands for "redundant acronym syndrome” 😏
